I would like to introduce myself your candidate for Mayor of Woodland Park. If we’ve not had the opportunity to meet, I look forward to getting to know you and learn about what you enjoy about our city and what are the important issues you’d like to see us work on in city council.
I am a 5th generation Coloradan; a descendant of strong and resourceful pioneers and I understand not only where we have been, but where we are going, and what challenges we face in the future as residents of our great state, county, and city.
I am a graduate of the University of Denver Strum College of Law holding a Juris Doctor and with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication form Metropolitan State College of Denver.
My husband and I have called Teller County home for over 10 years, and Woodland Park home for over 7 years. I first moved to Teller County in 2011, to live with my husband Peter LaBarre III, a Woodland Park High School Alumnus, and now USAF Major/Retired. During my time in Teller County, I served as Deputy Coroner for nearly 3 years, worked for the legal arm of the Anglo-Gold Ashanti Mine in Cripple Creek. I’ve served as a child advocate for the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) organization, provided a home for three foster care children, and served as a board member of the Ute Pass Symphony Guild. I am also a REALTOR® with Keller Williams Clients’ Choice here in Woodland Park.
After purchasing our home in 2014, I started to become more aware of the happenings in the Woodland Park city government, and became increasingly concerned about who was representing me and what they were doing with the trust I had placed in them. I decided that complaining about things that my representatives were doing would not change anything, so I decided to run for city council.
I am running for Mayor because I have enjoyed my time on council and I have learned a lot as well. Council has given me a new found respect for our city staff and the difficulties and intricacies of running a city. I have no agenda other than to properly run the city meetings to the best of my ability. I have 4 years total on council and a year and a half of experience during that time as the Mayor Pro Tem in running our council meetings. It has been a journey filled with education, new found friends, and an ever-present awareness of keeping our small government, small, and working closely with the concerns of citizens alike.
I firmly believe that our elected officials should have high moral standards and strong principles. We must listen to our citizens and act on their behalf and not make decisions based on our personal interests.
My priorities as you Mayor are simple:
- Ensure the rights and safety of our citizens.
- Provide ethical, fiscal oversight to the varied operations of the city government to best serve the citizens.
- Advocate for enhancing the standard of living for the residents of Woodland Park.
- Ensure transparency and open communication with constituents.
- Know and follow the rule of law in order to protect our citizens from financial liability
- Supervise the City Council meetings in an orderly, efficient, and civil way.
- Be the positive representative and face of our city that our citizens deserve.
I have seen too many times when the city’s business was relegated to the back burner for grand standing, soap boxing, and promotion of personal or political issues that are wholly unrelated to the topics at hand and are counterproductive to conducting the business of the city. In my opinion, these rants are a blatant show of disrespect against our citizens, city staff, and our volunteer council. When our elected officials put themselves first, we all suffer.
A little bit about who I am and what I enjoy:
I am a voracious reader. And enjoy trying food from all over the world. My husband and I love taking advantage of living in Colorado by camping and taking Jeep adventures. Our two little poodles, Monsieur Marley and Senior Smokey tag along on adventures with us as well.
For the past 4 years I have been available for a one-on-one discussion concerning the business of the City of Woodland Park and will continue to be an asset and advocate for you!
An email to your council members is the BEST way to communicate and document your interests and concerns about issues and decisions that impact our city.

I want to continue serving as your Mayor. Help me bring back “Civility in the City”!
