[ARCHIVED] City of Woodland Park Remembers Mayor Val Carr

Val Carr.2

It is with our deepest sympathies that we confirm City of Woodland Park Mayor Val Carr passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 after a battle with COVID-19.

Carr began his term as Mayor in April 2020, and served for four years on Woodland Park City Council prior to that. Mayor Carr was a very involved member of the community and possessed a strong desire to serve.

“I really enjoyed his company and his dedication to this community and he absolutely loved this community with all his heart,” said Mayor Pro Tem Hilary LaBarre. “He had a great sense of sarcasm and an enormous love for animals and his wife.”

For the near future, Mayor Pro Tem Hilary LaBarre will be the City’s chief elected official, tasked with running all Council meetings, among other duties.

The Council will be evaluating its next steps in the next few days. Per our City Charter, the Council can appoint a new mayor or call a special election. No decision has yet been made on that front. The next meeting of the Council is its regular meeting this Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 PM.

The City of Woodland Park requests privacy for the Mayor’s family at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the Mayor’s family request donations be made to the Teller Senior Coalition or Teller County Regional Animal Shelter.

On Feb. 17, 2021, Mayor Pro Tem Hilary LaBarre signed a proclamation stating that the flag of the United States be flown at half staff at all municipal facilities through Feb. 22, 2021.
