Level 2 Water Restrictions - Explained

Level 2 Water Restrictions in effect

Due to current water conditions, the City of Woodland Park is implementing a Level 2 water restriction.

At the City Council meeting on May 5, 2022, Council approved a resolution implementing Level 2 Water Restrictions for the City. These same restrictions went into effect in spring of 2021, but were set to expire this month.

What is a Level 2 Water Restriction?

During a Level 2 Water Restriction, the following rules apply:

  • May through September, watering is not allowed between noon and 6 pm.
  • No watering if wind speed is above 10 miles per hour.
  • Flowers, shrubs, and trees may be watered on any day, but not between noon and 6 pm.
  • Planting of new lawns is permitted, with restrictions. Spray irrigated areas (underground system or sprinkler with hose) must not exceed 2,500 feet. Houses completed after June 21, 2002, must submit an irrigation sketch plan for approval. Call 719-687-9246 for more information.

Additionally, lawns and turf grass can only be watered two days per week. Designated watering days are based on the last two digits of your address. Check out the chart below for your address' designated watering day.

Addresses ending in:Designated Watering Days
00 - 20Sunday and Thursday
21 - 50Monday and Friday
51 - 99Tuesday and Saturday

Why do we implement water restrictions?

Our utilities department evaluates water conditions annually and implements water restrictions as needed. High water usage and below average snowpack can lower our supply of stored augmentation water, which we keep at specific levels in order to consume our local water. Water restrictions allow us to keep our water conditions healthy as a community. We are always one dry winter away from our next water shortage. By being good stewards of our water today, we can work to protect our community from a water shortage in the future.

Thank you for doing your part to conserve water in Woodland Park. Happy Spring!
