The City of Woodland Park would like to educate both its residents and businesses concerning the Colorado bag fee which is set to go into effect January 1, 2023. The bag fee is a result of Colorado House Bill 21-1162, which includes the following:
Beginning January 1, 2023, customers of Woodland Park grocery stores will need to bring their own reusable bags or pay a 10-cent per bag fee for each paper or plastic bag used at checkout. After January 1, 2024, retailers will offer only recycled paper bags to customers for a fee of 10 cents per bag.
The carryout bag fee does not apply to a customer that provides evidence to the store that the customer is a participant in a federal or state food assistance program. The carryout bag fee also does not apply to materials used in the packaging of pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, or dietary supplements or any equipment or materials used to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs, medical devices, or dietary supplements.
To help ease the transition, the City of Woodland Park is offering 1 free reusable bag per person while supplies last. Bags can be picked up at City Hall (220 W. South Ave) during regular business hours starting January 3. Bags will be available while supplies last until January 13, 2023.
You can also find reusable bags for purchase at most retailers.
